2017 科技研討會 [大數據] (Big Data Tech Forum) (12/02)

聖地牙哥科工會(SDCASEA) 將於十二月二日 與加州大學聖地牙哥分校(UCSD) IEM研究所, 加州聖地牙哥州立大學(SDSU) HDMA研究中心，共同主辦 [大數據之相關科技發展和應用領域] 科技研討會。

SDCASEA will collaborate with the Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM) at UCSD, and the Center for Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age (HDMA) at SDSU to host the “Big Data Enabling Technologies and Applications” symposium and to introduce the state-of-the-art knowledge and developments of the Big Data applications to the general public, scientific, and industrial communities among Southern California.

Confirmed Speakers:

 image001Dr. Larry Smarr, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, the founding Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), UCSD. Professor Smarr is a widely-quoted authority on the future of information technology and telecommunications. He is a pioneer in prototyping a national information infrastructure to support academic research, governmental functions, and industrial competitiveness, and played a pivotal role in the development of the Internet and high-performance computing. Smarr created and led one of the first NSF-funded supercomputing center, and was an early advocate for the first national NSFnet backbone, which evolved into today’s Internet. The first Web browser–NCSA Mosaic, the predecessor of Netscape Navigator–originated at NCSA while he was Director. At Cal-(IT)², Smarr has authored an interdisciplinary approach to the institute’s goal of extending the reach of the current information infrastructure throughout the physical world to enable anytime/anywhere access.

image002Dr. Ching-Yung Lin 林清詠, CEO, Graphen, Inc., Adjunct Prof. EECS Columbia, IEEE Fellow, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, (was IBM Chief Scientist and Distinguished Researcher).  His research interest is mainly focused on multimodality signal analysis and complex network analysis, with applications on machine learning, distributed computing, embedded vision system, social computing and security.  Dr. Lin is a recipient of 2003 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Outstanding Young Author Award, IBM Invention Achievement Awards in 2001 and 2003, Acer Best EECS Thesis Award in 1993, and the Outstanding Paper Award in CVGIP 1993. He is the (co-)author of 100+ journal articles, conference papers, book chapters and public release software.

 

image003Dr. Chun-Nan Hsu許鈞南, Associate Professor of UCSD School of Medicine. Dr. Hsu earned his PhD in Computer Science from USC. He was Assistant Professor in Computer Science & Engineering at Arizona State University before he joined Academia Sinica, Taiwan (1998-2014), where he led the Informatics group of the Advanced Bioinformatics Core Service of National Research Program in Genomic Medicine (2006-2011).  He was elected as the 8th President of the Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence (2009-2011). He joined UCSD in 2013 and has been leading teaching and research in biomedical text mining since then. Dr. Hsu has published more than 100 highly cited peer-reviewed research articles in the fields of machine learning, data mining, and biomedical informatics. His team developed widely used software tools for biomedical sciences, leading to clinically used genomic medicine products. He was awarded Senior Member of Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) in 2011 and the IBM Faculty Award for his distinguished contributions to biomedical text mining in 2012.

image004Dr. Kevin Chen, Vice President and Chief Scientist, North America R&D DataLabs at Experian.  Dr. Chen has 18 years of industrial experience in creating Big Data and machine learning-based solutions in retail banking, marketing, insurance, and capital markets.  He was the Senior VP of Analytics at Opera Solutions as the Head of Unstructured Data Analytics and the Head of a transaction-level risk management platform solution.  He co-created SAS Institute’s flag-ship analytical solution, Raptor, a real-time plastic card fraud detection system that is widely used by top banks with close to $100M revenue annually.  He also worked in the areas of credit risk at FICO and HNC Software, which pioneered using machine learning for the financial industry.  Dr. Chen has a BS degree in Control Engineering from National Chiao-Tung University, an MEng from Cornell University, and a PhD from University of Hawaii, both in Electrical Engineering.  Dr. Chen was awarded the Experian Si Ramo Award, and invited to the prestigious CEO Forum, for his distinguished contribution in technology at Experian. He also has several patents on nonlinear modeling, behavioral profiling, and risk assessment.

 

image005Dr. Siavash Mirarab, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California at San Diego. Dr. Mirarab joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at UC San Diego in September 2015. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015 and his MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in 2008. He received his BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Tehran University, Iran, in 2000. In between his studies, he has worked for various companies, including IBM and Cisco.  His Ph.D. research has been supported by a Howard Hughes Medical Institute international graduate student fellowship and by Canadian NSERG PGSD awards.

 

image006Dr. Ming-Hsiang Tsou, Director of the Center for Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age, Professor of Geography Department, San Diego State University. Dr. Tsou received a B.S. (1991) from National Taiwan University, an M.A. (1996) from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Ph.D. (2001) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, all in Geography. His research interests are in Human Dynamics, Social Media, Big Data, Visualization, Internet Mapping, Web GIS, Mobile GIS, Cartography, and K-12 GIS education. He is co-author of Internet GIS, a scholarly book published in 2003 by Wiley and served on the editorial boards of the Annals of GIS (2008-), Cartography and GIScience (2013-) and the Professional Geographers (2011-). Dr. Tsou established a new research center, Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age, a transdisciplinary research area of excellence at San Diego State University to integrate research works from GIScience, Public Health, Sociology, and Communication.

 

image007Dr. James Meng, Senior Fellow, SuperComputer Center, University of California, San Diego. Visiting Scholar, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan Management School. Dr. Meng was selected into the Federal Government’s Senior Executive Service in June 1998 and retired on June 27th, 2015. He was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Architectures, Standards and Integration, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics Executive, office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Research Development & Acquisition. He was the Executive Director, System Engineering, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Chief Systems Engineer, the Navy’s certifying authority of the Strike Force Interoperability. Dr. Meng was an ASME Fellow, his publications appeared in Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Applied Optics, Journal of Aircraft and Journal of Computational Physics. He holds 7 patents.
